Concrete Mattress Installation for Subsea Cable at WTG

In May 2022, EPIC contractor of Binh Dai Wind Power Plant, Powerchina faced post-construction challenges at their Binh Dai District site. Powerchina highlighted issues due to seabed movement, intense wave action, and subsequent damage to the Cable Protection System (CPS), cable infrastructure, and the scour system. Understanding the gravity of the situation and the potential risks involved, OEI was approached to devise a solution.

With a reputation for handling complex marine engineering challenges, OEI swiftly proposed the installation of concrete mattresses to safeguard the subsea cables. These mattresses, designed to withstand the marine environment’s challenges, would act as a protective layer, preventing further damage and ensuring the subsea infrastructure’s longevity.

To execute this solution, OEI mobilized its specialized barge, OEI-Tancang-03, equipped with a state-of-the-art positioning system. The team undertook the fabrication of the mattresses and the installation frame, ensuring they met the project’s specific requirements. Alongside the equipment, OEI also deployed a skilled diving team, a construction crew, and advanced positioning systems to ensure precision during the installation process.

The combined efforts of OEI’s technical team, advanced equipment, and strategic planning ensured the successful placement of 60 concrete mattresses, offering optimal protection to the vulnerable cable sections. This initiative not only resolved the immediate concerns but also reinforced OEI’s commitment to delivering timely and effective solutions, even in challenging scenarios.

Through this collaboration with Powerchina, OEI demonstrated its capability to adapt and respond effectively, emphasizing the importance of proactive measures and expertise in the renewable energy sector.
